THE A-BONES: Daddy Wants A Cold Beer and Other Million Sellers (Singles, Orphans and Outcasts). U.S. Norton Records. A-Bones celebrate their 20th Anniversary with a massive specially priced double CD set that culls 46 tracks from singles and other odd places including the A-Bones backing up legends like Johnny Powers, Rudy Tutti Grayzell, the Great Gaylord, Roy Loney and more, plus ten unissued tracks and a brand new bonus recording featuring the 5.6.7.8's! Giant photo booklet takes you back down memory lane and ... dumps you there! $17

ADOLESCENTS: Live 1981 and 1986. U.S. Triple X Records. 27 tracks. The title says it all. Capturing the two major line-ups of the original band during the '80s, in their early hyper-brattish debut album days and then the slightly more calm (but only just) 'Balboa Fun Zone' era. $12

THE ADVERTS: Crossing The Red Sea (Ultimate Edition). England. Devils Own Jukebox. 25 track deluxe slipcase edition of one of the trail-blazing punk albums, including a cardiac inducing classic hit single, 6 bonus tracks and 6 never before heard live tracks. $20

THE AEROVONS: Resurrection. U.K. RPM Records. 16 tracks. A missing in action masterpiece from 1969, full of Beatles connections and inflections, plus the groups own popsike visions. Signed by EMI from the demo of their song "World of You", the Beatles inspired American band, the Aerovons proceeded to absorb everything around them in late 60's London and particularly Abbey Road studios. They met George Harrison and Paul McCartney, watched the Fab Four record "Yer Blues" and "Sexy Sadie", heard playbacks of "Oh Darling!" Then they laid down their own material, with the able assistance of engineers Alan Parsons and Geoff Emerick, both with their own Beatles connections. Only two singles were released by Parlophone in 1969, the band returned to St Louis and their album was criminally shelved. With hind sight had the album been released at the proper time the Aerovons would have beaten Badfinger by a year, and could well have stolen their thunder. This is a lost sixties gem and an essential listen for popsike fans, full of the Beatles and the Abbey Road sound. $17

AGENT ORANGE: Blood Stained Hitz. U.S. Anarchy Music. 13 track digi-pak edition. Reissue of the 2000 Cleopatra release. A collection of songs from Agent Orange's catalog re-recorded by the band with three new songs. $11

Rex) on drums. The resulting limited edition live recording, the grungy S.L.S.Q. ("Slightly Limited Sound Quality"), features eight tracks, mostly Saints material, including a cover of Ike & Tina's "River Deep, Mountain High", a staple of the Saints set lists, and Del Shannon's "Runaway". THE B-MOVIE RATS: Killer Woman. U.S. Dead Beat Records. Debut album documenting the B-Move Rats at their most raw, fierce stripped down stage. BACKYARD BABIES: Making Enemies Is Good. Sweden. BMG/G.U.N./Super Sonic Records. Their 3rd full-length release. $20

BAD BRAINS: Build A Nation. Megaforce/Oscilloscope Records. 14 track digi-pak edition. No one ever has or ever will mix punk and roots reggae better than the Bad Brains, and this album, the band's eighth in the studio since their formation in 1979, is further proof. While H.R. doesn't attack with quite the same Lion-of-Jah ferocity found on the band's early albums, he's still an utterly invigorating frontman, as evidenced by the tracks "Give Thanks and Praises" and "Pure Love." The band itself is in rare form, with guitarist Dr. Know unleashing brutal, jazzy riffs and scorching solos, while Darryl Jenifer and Earl Hudson lay down the strictest of ridims. The whole unit also still maintains that remarkable ability to stop on a dime and find a nice gentle dub groove in praise of Jah. No matter where they are in their game, there's nothing quite like it. $15

THE BLACKLIST: The Blacklist Attacks. Australia. Stolen Records. 6 track debut from Oz punk rock 'n' rollers. With the end of Melbourne acts The Spoilers, The Sex Bombs and The Demolitions, The Blacklist have formed in their wake. They play music drawing upon influences from more recent times, in opposition to noticeably retro 'new' rock bands such as The Casanovas, Jet and The Datsuns. The Blacklist feature former Spoilers Crak Bradley (drums) and Ion Scott the First (guitar), former Sex Bombs Ben O'Fury (bass/vocals) and Kaptain Karl (guitar) and ex-Demolition vocalist Goodtime Gemmill. The band's slash and burn style would make Motorhead, the MC5 and The New Bomb Turks proud. The band can also write and play a catchy riff while maintaining that high energy level. With their short, sharp, scorching and punishing punk rock 'n' roll The Blacklist shouldn't be ignored. $9

There's nothing here but good old-fashioned rock, no keyboards, knob twiddling, goofball samples, or other affectations, just the brutal, unparalleled power of a couple of snarling guitars, a playground bully of a bass, and fierce drums. That's right, rock and roll! When you hear it done right, you wonder how you ever could have listened to anything else. And the Dishes do it damn right. If this doesn't get your juices pumping, you must be dead! Garage-punk legend Tim Kerr produced '3', and Bill Skibbe, best known as the sound engineer for Shellac, engineered and mixed the album at his Key Club Studio. 10 tracks including a cover of the garage classic 'Action Woman' made famous by The Litter & The Electras. $13

DMZ: Self-Titled. U.S. Sepiatone Records. The 1978 album by the granddaddies of modern garage rock was the first to combine Stooges-style '70s punk riffage with Sonics and Wailers '60s punk covers. Re-mastered with new liner notes by Jeff "Mono Man" Connelly. $14

ROKY ERICKSON AND THE EXPLOSIVES: Halloween (Live 1979-1981). U.S. SteadyBoy Records. "Nobody had ever heard anything like Roky Erickson when he and his 13th Floor Elevators burst out of Austin, Texas onto the psychedelic scene in 1966 with their scary nugget, " You're Gonna Miss Me." A decade later, the power-popping Explosives re-ignited the Austin flame, infusing tight Beatlesque rhythms with the passionate fury of their Elevator hero. By 1979, it was downright inevitable that they come together as a tight quartet. Since 2005, the Explosives have again powered Erickson's inspiring return to the stage. Halloween captures the live experience of Roky and the Explosives from their powerful first cycle, 1979-1981. Explosives drummer Freddie Steady Krc has handpicked the tracks, most unreleased, including the only performance of The Beatles' " I've Just Seen a Face." The psychedelic package (cover by San Francisco poster artist, Dennis Loren) includes previously unpublished photos plus a complete history of the band's performances from those three amazing years." 18 tracks in all including KLBJ radio spot. $17

NICK LOWE: The Best Of Nick Lowe. U.S. Sony/Columbia Records. A 25-song tour through Nick Lowe's first seven albums, which represented a more-or-less unbroken stream of yearly releases before he changed his pace (he released three full albums of new material in the next decade). More than half is culled from the 'Jesus Of Cool' and 'Labour Of Lust', with the remaining 11 songs leaning most heavily on the grand 'Rose Of England', but including something from every album he made (only one from 'Pinker And Prouder Than Previous', but a good one it is). 'Basher' serves as a perfect introduction into the world of Nick Lowe. It's an inviting and catchy world, one that can be nicely embellished by next visiting each of his full creations. $12

NICK LOWE: Jesus Of Cool. U.S. Yep Roc Records. Deluxe 21 track tri-fold digi-pak "30th Anniversary Resurrection" edition. 2008 marked the 30th anniversary of Nick Lowe's seminal 1978 album 'Jesus of Cool'. The album, released in the U.S. as 'Pure Pop for Now People', marked the beginning of one of the most storied and influential solo careers in pop music and marks the true emergence of a songwriting monolith. The album is a literal compendium of 25 years of pop music history. Here, the sweet melodies of pre-Beatles pop, the energy of the British Invasion, the excess of glam and elements of ska and new wave don't blend but stand side by side on the field of battle, each one willing to lay down his life for the other. 'Jesus' is the crossroads where pop music and pop culture collide, self-aware for the first time, fusing into a white hot chunk of rock n' roll energy. Here, on this 30 th anniversary edition of the album, the original and U.S. versions of the album are combined to include all material ever available on either release. In addition, seven bonus cuts are included making this the definitive version of this undisputed pop masterpiece. $16

MAGIC MUSHROOM BAND: Re-Hash. U.K. Voiceprint. The album 'Re-Hash' was a compilation of sorts of the bands best earlier material re-recorded more in the style of Astralasia although many have suggested that the radical re-working of the track "Magick Eye" is the best version of the song the band have ever performed. Also included on 'Re-Hash' is a cover of the Jimi Hendrix song "Are You Experienced?" which certainly puts a new spin on the Hendrix classic. There is also another cover on the album, a re-worked version of the Tomorrow psychedelic classic "My White Bicycle". $16

THE MIRAGE: Tomorrow Never Knows: Singles & Lost Sessions 1966-1968. U.K. RPM Records. Another unsung band of the sixties UK popsike scene. The package contains the singles leased to Phillips for release in the late 60's, plus unissued sessions, including 11 previously unknown tracks. The Mirage had an upbeat, harmony-laden approach akin to 1966 era Beatles and the Hollies. Many songs, mostly self penned, were storytelling, observational songs, the most famous of these being their 1967 single, "The Wedding of Ramona Blair," about a bride whose groom fails to show up at the ceremony, which has appeared on several compilations of British psychedelia. The Mirage signed to Dick James Publishing and served as the house band for a penny or two, including sessions backing Elton John during his embryonic song writing days. Indeed later on, following the bands break up in 1968, Mirage guitarist Dee Murray then joined Elton Johns own band for his run of classic early 70's albums and tours. Another connection The Mirage had was through writer / producer Kirk Duncan, who in turn had a deal with the Hollies own Gralto Music Publishing company. So a propensity for some material to sound akin to the Hollies is not quite so surprising. It even culminates in a song demo from Glynn's collection with Graham Nash singing lead for a Mirage session recording. $20

THE PRETTY THINGS: Balboa Island. U.S. ZOHO Music. 13 tracks. 'Balboa Island' is legendary British rock group The Pretty Things' long-awaited eleventh studio album in a forty-three-year recording career! Their first CD release in over eight years, many already regard it as on par with the band's very greatest '60s and '70s recordings. From the stadium-sized rock of "All Light Up" to the raw acoustic guitar blues of "Feel Like Going Home" and the Beatles/Abbey Road style of "Dearly Beloved," The Pretty Things have crafted a dark album--brooding, powerful, mysterious, and edgy. These thirteen new songs--mostly originals, but also including an acoustic cover of early Bob Dylan song "The Ballad of Hollis Brown"--have a rawness, intensity, depth, and passion unmatched by any of the band's contemporaries: the Rolling Stones, Them/Van Morrison, or The Who. None of the class of '64 has enough gas left in the tank to make an album like this! Founded in 1964 by lead vocalist Phil May and lead guitarist Dick Taylor--who was the Rolling Stones' original bass guitarist prior to starting The Pretty Things--the band has always followed its own fiercely independent path. Although the huge international breakthrough of the Rolling Stones or The Who has eluded the group, the members' uncompromising musical integrity has given them a cult following around the world. $17

THE RIPPERS: Tales Full Of Black Soot. Germany. Screaming Apple Records. The wyldest R'n'B band on this planet has returned with their second full-length. THE RIPPERS are from Sardinia and follow a long tradition of Italian garage outfits from the past 20 years. Totally devoted to all the "no-hit wonders" from the sixties, they play an insane mixture of primitive garage-punk and ravin' rhythm'n'blues. Their main influence is the pure beat mayhem of bands like the PRETTY THINGS, DOWNLINERS SECT, Q'65 and the MISSING LINKS and you can easily compare them to all those great eighties garage combos like the CRAWDADDYS, TELL TALE HEARTS and WYLDE MAMMOTHS. Havin' released 45s on some of the coolest labels around, like SLOVENLY, PSYCH OUT, CORDUROY and SHAKE YOUR ASS and a debut album which got ravin' reviews all over the place (the vinyl version got sold out in just 3 months), they decided to give the garage world more of that infectious stuff they’re famous for. The RIPPERS don't want to create something new, they just wanna live out their passion for the sixties and the music of that decade. A bunch of caveteens is banging the stones and you can witness it. Be sure not to miss this record. It's a real blast. Prehistoric sounds from the caves of Italy. Yabba Dabba Dooh! $18

THE STONEAGE HEARTS: Turn On With ... Australia. Off The Hip. 11 tracks. Another excellent Aussie band that features one of the members of the Hands Of Time! The Stoneage Hearts have a decidedly more '70s powerpop sound, and what a sound it is! Super-catchy stuff, with lots of biting guitars and vocal harmonies. Great covers of "Rock And Roll Girl" (Paul Collin's Beat), "I'm In Love" (Zippers) and "Stranded On A Dateless Night" (Cordell Jackson). Originals like "So Glad (That You're Gone)" and the super hard-driving "Two Timing Girl" really get my feet a stompin'! "Kimberly" mines similar territory to the Hands Of Time with its fuzzed-out guitars, wailing harp and general garage rock groove. Similarly, a cover of the Good, The Bad & The Ugly's "Houndog Man" gets the raving R&B treatment with tasty blues licks and more fab harp work. Fantastic! $22

THE STONEAGE HEARTS: Guilty As Sin. Australia. Off The Hip. The second album from Melbourne, Australia's, THE STONEAGE HEARTS features DOM MARIANI on Guitar/Vocals; "GUILTY AS SIN" is a welcome return to Dom's garage rock roots!! So it's no surprise this album sounds like THE STEMS circa 1985!! "Guilty As Sin" displays elements of THE REAL KIDS, THE CREATION, THE ANIMALS and THE SONICS!!More "GARAGE" and "ROCK" than the band's debut from 2002, the aptly titled "Turn On" possessed a more POWERPOP edge. This time 'round THE STONEAGE HEARTS mine their obscure Garage record piles and deliver an ace collection of fuzz laced rippers. $22

THE SURF SLUTS: Pot Sounds. U.K. Delerium Records. Releases on Delerium Records have become very difficult to find and so it is with the great album by Suicidal Flowers offshoot, The Surf Sluts (released in 2000). On this crazed recording the UK band meet The Beach Boys, and terrorise them back to California with just a touch of energetic rock & roll, a dash of tribal rhythms and a hint of pagan doo-wop. Overall a tasty treat that captures rock music like it used to be - and hopefully always will be. Wild! Features a hilarious "Pet Sounds" spoof cover. 15 tracks in all. $18

THE TRASHMEN: Surfin' Bird. U.S. Sundazed Music. Re-mastered reissue of the band's debut LP from 1965 with 5 bonus tracks. TYLA GANG: Yachtless. U.K. Mystic Records. Remastered reissue of the UK band's debut album originally released in 1977 with the addition of 6 bonus tracks. One of the best rock 'n' roll albums of '77. Out of print. $25

UNION 69: Holiday 2000. Denmark. Bad Afro Records. 12 tracks. Obnoxious is the first word that comes to mind when the Swedish/American band Union 69 is in question. Everything about these guys evolves around punk rock, sex, drugs, midgets, tattoos, trucker motherfuckers and rock'n'roll debauchery in general. Their brand of explosive punk rock can best be described as a clash between classic American punk ala the Angry Samoans, AC/DC, and the sleaze of Turbonegro. 12 tunes that go from full throttle punk,to midtempo rockers, to spooky surf tunes. $18

UNION CARBIDE PRODUCTIONS: Remastered To Be Rcycled. Sweden. MNW/Push Music Group. Digitally remastered collection of tracks from the punk rock 'n' roll group that pre-dated the Swedish neo-psychedelic band The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. Also includes new mixes of "Glad To Have You Back", "Chameleon Ride", "Mr. Untitled" and "How Do You Feel Today". According to Ebbot, this is not to be considered a 'Best of' record. When the record company decided to re-release this set, he wanted to throw in some new material for the fans! $20

THE URGES: Psych Ward. Australia. Off The Hip. 11 tracks. A new generation of teenage psych-punk bands is hitting the scene these days and the leaders of this movement are without any doubt Ireland's amazing Urges, which 'Psych Ward' proves impressively. They can be best described as the missing link between those old titans of the 60's, such as the Music Machine, the Seeds and the Electric Prunes and the 'Paisley Underground' of the 80's with bands like the Morlocks, Fuzztones and Miracle Workers. $18

VELVETT FOGG: Velvett Fogg +1. England. Castle/Sanctuary. Remastered reissue of the band's classic & rare psych album from 1969 plus 1 bonus track. $22

THE (FABULOUS) WAILERS: At The Castle. U.S. Norton Records. The most influential early Northwest combo at their very wildest, live n’ loud in 1963 at the legendary Spanish Castle with full revue including fifteen year old sensation Gail Harris & the late, everso great Rockin’ Robin Roberts! Reissued in mega monstrous Nortophonic Loud Sound with two bonus cuts! Booklet includes in-depth interviews, pix and info! Essential stuff for all ye who demand unrelenting howling excellence! Yeah! $13

THE WEEDS: A.K.A. The Lollipop Shoppe. Germany. Way Back/Music Maniac. 18 tracks. First official reissue of The Weeds (a.k.a. The Lollipop Shoppe), authorized by Fred Cole of Dead Moon fame! When "You Must Be a Witch" proved to be a hit single, The Weeds were hot. The Weeds were always just The Weeds, but the suits being suits forced the band to moonlight under the cutesy Lollipop Shoppe tag to lure in sweet-toothed teens. The group regularly opened for The Doors, The Seeds, and Moby Grape as well as a few one-offs with the likes of Buffalo Springfield, Big Brother, and Jefferson Airplane. This is `60s garage/psych at its best. A long-awaited re-issue, the album has been beautifully re-mastered by Mark "Bosshoss" Taylor. $16

WEST COAST POP ART EXPERIMENTAL BAND: Part One. U.S. Sundazed Music. Re-mastered reissue of the band's major label debut LP originally released on Reprise Records in 1967 plus 2 bonus tracks. WIRE: Pink Flag. U.S. Pink Flag Records. Re-mastered reissue of the British band's debut LP from 1977. Wire's furious interpretation of punk was encapsulated on this primitive, minimalist debut. Abrasive and disjointed, these 21 tracks exude a fury impossible to ignore and one enhanced by their very brevity. Tracks halt, sometimes abruptly, when the point has been made, creating an ever-changing melange of sound and texture. While generally aggressive, 'Pink Flag' also boasts two wonderful pop songs ("Ex-Lion Tamer" and "Mannequin"), suggesting that Wire would not be constrained by stylistic expectations. The album's mixture of polemics and pointedness would influence several US groups, including R.E.M., who later covered "Strange". Its perceptive urgency grows with time. $16

THE WOGGLES: Rock And Roll Backlash. U.S. Wicked Cool Records. 12 tracks. The latest full-length from Atlanta-based garage rockers. 'Rock and Roll Backlash' boasts a fuller-bodied production than many of the Woggles' early works but doesn't detract from their Nuggets-and Pebbles-inspired aesthetic. $13

THE WONDERFOOLS: Doing Our Duty To The Nightlife. Sweden. Wild Kingdom. 11 tracks. Second full-length from Norwegian punk rockers. $20

V/A: 1 2 3 4 Punk & New Wave 1976 - 1979. U.K. Universal/MCA Music (UK) Ltd. 100 track 5 CD box set. Second edition of this ultra-limited release. Each CD is in its own cardboard envelope. The 5 envelopes can be put together to make one big picture. There is a booklet with a general introduction, followed by one page for each of the 100 tracks, containing information on the artist and recommendations of which of their records to buy. No single box set however sumptuously packaged, however comprehensively compiled, could hope to contain the bewildering, diverse array of musical styles and opinions that was brought together under the loose description "punk" between 1976 and 1979. There were so many fresh ideas and concepts - the final, irreversible emancipation of women in rock and the creation of an entirely new, non-R&B, guitar-based music form - contained within that one word, no compilation could hope to represent it fairly. 1-2-3-4 makes a damn good try, though. Five CDs, featuring 100 tracks from the good, the bad and the downright ugly of punk. This is a compilation for the historical completist, taking in everyone from the early trail-blazers (Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, Ramones, Television) through to the 1978 Rough Trade independent outburst (Raincoats, Slits, Pop Group) and the politically-charged (Gang Of Four, Au Pairs, Tom Robinson Band). The post-punk "new wave" explosion is represented by the Buzzcocks, Devo and XTC as are the art-rockers by Siouxsie, Ultravox and Pere Ubu. Even the novelty records get a mention: Jilted John and Television Personalities. The list is virtually endless. Considering the genre's (relative) lack of commercial impact at the time, it's astonishing how its repercussions are still being felt today. The punk explosion was Year Zero for the music press; it was the direct precursor of the American grunge movement and it became the initial working model for the DIY dance and rap explosions. Moreover, punk was a point of influence that no "indie" band creating music today can hope to avoid. Elastica, the Stereophonics, Nirvana, Green Day, Offspring, Public Enemy and Prodigy are just some of the bands the can find their mirror selves in punk. This is a mind-blowing compilation. Out of print. $125

V/A: The Electric Coffee House (20 mid-sixties garage/folk gems from the USA). U.K. Psychic Circle. This disc comprises 20 tracks, previously uncomped on CD, from such disparate artists as Elvis Presley's favourite garage band, a blind singer discovered by Davy Jones of The Monkees, a Mexican band who had to learn their lyrics phonetically, and a young Terry Jacks (of "Seasons In The Sun" notoriety), plus a host of other harmonising hopefuls. Prepare to be well and truly jangled. Complied by Nick "Bevis Frond" Saloman. $22
